• The Influence On Our Youngsters

We were on a bus today, travelling to a local town. Some time ago, I spent a few months cleaning busses at night - so it upsets me when I see people just throwing things on the bus floors. The most telling thing that I noticed when cleaning the busses was the number of used tickets thrown on the floor.

Each ticket has the type of ticket written on it - and I know that the majority of people will think that all those discarded tickets littering the floor were dropped by kids and young adults. The reality is that the gross majority of tickets on bus floors are dropped by pensioners. This is obvious on our local bus network as the tickets have OAP printed on them.

All this, despite the number of those same pensioners that 'tut-tut' when they see litter and inspite of the used ticket bins on every bus positioned conveniently next to where you buy your ticket.

Today though we saw something that really annoyed me. This nice, polite woman not only dropped her OAP free ticket on the floor but then proceeded to pop a couple of cough sweets into her mouth before scrunching up the wrappers and throwing them on the floor.

How are our children supposed to grow up to be responsible when they get it in the neck from people who are not practicing what they preach.

  • The Joys of a Tele Addict

We're not encouraging Matthew to watch television. We haven't bought kiddies DVD's and don't sit him down in front of the tele to keep him entertained. Even so - it appears that little Matthew is destined to become a tele-addict.

In the morning whilst feeding, I'll turn the TV on as a distraction for me, Matthew insists on watching whilst drinking from his bottle. If feeding, he'll take a spoonful, and then turn back to the TV whilst he eats it. When ready he'll turn back towards me for the next spoon. Whenever the music for the Simpsons (a favourite of mine) or Hollyoaks comes on - that's all he is interested in. He's also becoming a fan of the adverts.

Fortunately we can regain he's attention, but if he wants to watch something he is well equipped to let us know - usually by putting his hand over my mouth! Cheeky little so and so. Does make me wonder whether the TV stations invest money into researching sound/colour/image combinations that grab kids attention... Ohhh start the conspiricy theories.

  • Sleep Crawling...

Last night was a pretty hectic night for us with getting up to Matthew several times. It's not that he doesn't sleep through the night, as in general he does. Rather he sleep crawls. This in itself is perhaps not a problem, after all he has warm sleep suits and is kept in the cot by the rails, and those are in turn padded by the rail cover. Really the problem is that he runs out of space to crawl in.

Every so often, over the baby monitor's we will hear Matthew calling out. Upon entering his room we will find him up against the rails trying to crawl through them. The thing is, he is always asleep. On top of that, he remains asleep as we pick him up and return him to his sleeping position. He settles into a comfortable position and everything is quiet until the next time he goes on a crawl-about.

Matthew is our first, so we don't know if this is a common thing amongst babies. We are not concerned by this, but it is curious and more than a little entertaining. Bless his cottons, he brings us sunshine on even the most cloudy day (or night in this case).

  • A New Blog...

A New Family, A New Blog...

I've never had a blog before - I guess I just never had the time to do anything with one. However, now with little Matthew I'm trying to make more time for a whole range of things. A blog seems like a nice idea - a way our friends and family can keep up to date with our day to day lives. Of course, a blog brings with it the added bonus of new friends

Over the course of time, I am sure that we will be able to add information about ourselves, so that people can get to know us that little bit more.
